Unnamed Battery #2, Charleston County (James Island)
SCDAH
No Photo Available

Like its sister battery (Unnamed Battery #1), this earth redoubt is one of two remaining from the eastern James Island Line constructed in 1862 by General J.C. Pemberton. Since the entire line was later judged inadequate by General P.G.T. Beauregard, much of the line was ordered destroyed. This unnamed work is valuable as a survivor of this early defensive system and is a good example of a small enclosed redoubt. The redoubt measures approximately 200 by 200 feet. The parapet is about 12 feet high with a powder magazine of 17 feet. While in good condition, this position is completely covered with secondary timber and a thick understory growth. Listed in the National Register August 11, 1982.
